3:09 PM 16/05/2009 - A Presentation, Wedding Rings And Other Plans

I did an hour long presentation at work a couple of weeks ago to the department (around 30 people) on the basics of HTML and CSS. It is part of a series of presentations done by colleagues to the department to get everyone more up to speed on mobile and web technologies. I work in a software development company, so if you want to stay strong nowadays you have to start learning this stuff. The presentation went really well and I have been asked to do another one in the future, focusing on one particular area of HTML or CSS. When I was creating the presentation however I realised how old my website is. I used tables for the layout of this design, and when you have a resolution any larger than 1440 x 900 (my monitor at home) the side panel starts to repeat and looks odd. I would like to re-design my site but I am so in love with the current layout that I don't know if I could do it! We shall see...

We went to get the wedding rings today. I was determined not to look in a jewellery store because I thought that they wouldn't have anything under around $300, so we went to The Bay first (a department store). They only had one ring and it was $350! So we went to Zellers next, which is a cheaper department store. They didn't have any plain wedding bands. We then saw a stand that was selling jewellery that looked pretty fancy, but then we noticed that it was all just silver and their wedding bands were $44! Too high, then too low... So we thought, "Well why not check out one jewellery store, if they have a sale maybe we will get a good deal". The first one we went to had a ring for $180 and I was thoroughly surprised how much cheaper it was than a department store. We then decided to check out some of the other dozen jewellery stores that were in the mall and eventually we ended up ordering two identical plain gold wedding bands for $140 each! Who would have thought the fancy jewellery store would have had a better deal than a department store? It seems like The Bay and Sears are only good for the 20% off awesome chocolate bars these days.

A.J. and I have our last meeting with the Minister for our Wedding before the big day tomorrow. In 6 weeks we shall be married and on a holiday in the mountains! Yay! I can not wait for the time off and to see my family. The whole planning experience so far for the wedding has been pretty good. The only thing we have left to plan is the cake (if we even want one), my dress and A.J's tie and shoes. Simplistic weddings have to be the best way to go!
